About alban elved dance company

Genre: Contemporary Dance

Led by artistic director Karola Lüttringhaus, alban elved dance company is an interdisciplinary contemporary dance company originally from Berlin, Germany, and in August 2007 became the permanent resident dance company at the University of North Carolina - Wilmington through the Office of Cultural Arts.

Ms. Lüttringhaus creates athletic and theatrical contemporary dance works, which seek to shape meaning from the rich array of emotional experience. Her work is fiercely physical, tracing the changeable electricity of thought and sensation that underlies human interaction and interpersonal relationships. The interdisciplinary nature of their works, which frequently incorporate live music, visual art, digital media, aerial work, and technologies, expands the boundaries of dance performance, creating startling and evocative psychological landscapes.

alban elved dance company creates contemporary dance works for the traditional stage as well as for unconventional or outdoor spaces.
In 2007, alban elved dance company brought the first annual SARUS DANCE FESTIVAL to life offering performances, classes and related events by national, local and international professional companies in Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington, NC. ~ www.sarusfestival.com

The company seeks inspiration and expansion of expression through collaborations with other fields.
Technologies have inspired pieces such as "MiDi" and "Free Space”. The interdisciplinary dance and science projects entitled "Free Space" join artists, engineers and humanists to explore how technology might expand human creativity and how forms of creativity might offer insights into expanding technology.
Ms Luttringhaus' works are expressions of a deep desire to dance and of a complete enjoyment of life.
Her pieces are always sensitive, profound, athletic and catchy.

alban elved dance company splits its time between Berlin/Germany, New York City and North Carolina and tours nationally and internationally.

'alban elved' is the Celtic name for the fall equinox. alban elved literally translates to "the light of the water" and often water finds a place in the company's works in actual or metaphorical form.
